Notices of Notices.

Last month, the USPTO announced changes to its trademark notification practice.

After determining that some applicants elect paper notices because paper notices of publication arrived approximately three weeks before the email notifications, the USPTO implemented a new practice to limit this discrepancy.

“Specifically, on the date that the paper notice would normally be sent, for anyone who has authorized email communication, we will now send an email "Notification of Notice of Publication." This notification will indicate the future date of publication …”

Applicants authorizing email communication still will receive an email on the date of actual publication, now identified as a “Notice of Actual Publication.”
In addition, as of November 19, 2011, trademark applicants now have the opportunity to list multiple email addresses for receipt of electronic communications from the USPTO.
